HAZOP Technique and HAZOP Team Leader Training
Course Description
The Melios HAZOP training program comprises a discrete set of integrated modules that have been specifically tailored to provide effective training, understanding and application of a HAZOP study within the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry.
The training covers all the essential aspects of a HAZOP study and uses a series of practical workshops and role-play scenarios to develop delegates either as team leaders or members. It is important that participants attending as HAZOP team leaders have some experience of HAZOP while participants attending as team members may have little or no HAZOP experience.

⦿ Experienced HAZOP team members who are moving on to team leadership
⦿ Those who need to refresh and update their HAZOP experience
⦿ Engineers and other technical personnel who are new to HAZOP study
⦿ Those with safety and project management responsibilities
Course Duration
The training will be delivered over a period of 5 working days from Monday to Friday. This is necessary to ensure all topics and associated exercises are adequately covered at the appropriate level. Delegates are therefore required to attend the entire duration of the program so as to gain full appreciation of the topics. It will also equip participants such that they are able to confidently apply the knowledge and make value-adding contribution or decisions.
Course Objectives
✓ A thorough understanding of the principles and methodology of a HAZOP study and its practical application.
✓ Understanding of the factors that control the efficient management of a HAZOP study and the effective use of resources i.e. team meeting times.
✓ Awareness of key features that determine the effectiveness of a HAZOP study in exposing relevant hazard and operability problems.
✓ Recognition of the role of a HAZOP study as a useful hazard identification technique and its relationship with other techniques.
✓ Understanding the timing and appropriate application of a HAZOP study during an asset lifecycle phase i.e. design, operation, modification etc.
✓ Gaining confidence and improvement as HAZOP team leaders and/ or members through group work role play exercises.
✓ Understanding the role and importance of pre-planning studies prior to a HAZOP study.
✓ Understanding the role and importance of recording in HAZOP studies using appropriate computer-based recording tools.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, delegates will acquire in-depth knowledge of:

✓ Gain sound understanding of the different role function of team leaders and members within a HAZOP team;
✓ Gain good leadership techniques and pitfalls to avoid when leading a HAZOP study;

✓ Manage HAZOP studies and work effectively with team members and the team secretary (for team leaders);
✓ Understand the role and responsibilities of team members;
✓ Initiate discussion during HAZOP meetings and make useful contribution to discourse during meetings (for team members); and
✓ Appreciate the purpose and benefit of a HAZOP study, knowledge of its use and application to satisfy best practice requirement in managing risks.
